First Aid Awareness Online Course

Develop essential first aid awareness skills with this CPD accredited online course, designed to give you the confidence and knowledge to respond effectively in a medical emergency at work. The Health and Safety (First-Aid) Regulations 1981 require employers to provide adequate first aid arrangements, and this course helps employees understand their role within that framework. You will learn how to assess an emergency scene safely, carry out primary and secondary surveys, perform CPR, and use an automated external defibrillator (AED). The course also covers how to treat common workplace injuries including bleeding, burns, fractures, sprains, and choking, as well as how to manage an unconscious casualty and recognise the signs of shock, seizures, and cardiac arrest. While this is an awareness-level course and does not replace a full practical first aid at work qualification, it provides a solid foundation of knowledge that is valuable for all employees. It is particularly useful as a refresher for appointed first aiders, as an introduction for new staff, or as part of a broader workplace health and safety training programme. The HSE recommends that all employees have a basic understanding of first aid, regardless of whether they hold a formal first aid at work certificate. Upon completion, you will receive a CPD accredited certificate recognised by employers across the UK.

Your First Aid Awareness certificate is included in the £29 Chefs Bay Academy licence, along with 130+ other CPD accredited courses. One payment, 12 months of access, no subscription.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

No. A regulated First Aid at Work certificate requires in-person practical assessment with an approved trainer, because it tests hands-on skills like CPR. This awareness course builds the underpinning knowledge and is useful for appointed persons and as preparation or refresher reading, but on its own it does not certify you as a workplace first aider.

It suits appointed persons who look after first aid arrangements, staff who want a working understanding of emergency basics, and anyone preparing for or topping up a practical course. Employers often use it to raise general awareness across a team alongside their qualified first aiders.

It covers the role of a first aider, how to assess an incident, the recovery position, the basics of CPR, and dealing with bleeding, burns, shock, and choking, along with when to call for emergency help.

First aid awareness typically takes around 2 to 3 hours online. You can pause and return as needed within your 12-month access period.
